Our programmes

A complete leadership pathway across strategy, governance and delivery

This unit develops the AI leadership literacy that senior leaders need to set direction, governance and oversight for AI well. It builds a realistic understanding of what current AI can reliably do and where its limits lie, including the 2026 shift from chat assistant to governed agent, the ability to spot and prioritise opportunities that genuinely serve organisational goals and the means to translate them into a governed, board-ready strategy with risk made explicit.

It balances productivity gains against feasibility, impact and organisational readiness, aligning the result to the organisation's goals, values and risk appetite.

This unit develops the leadership capability to choose AI well, buy it with confidence and govern it responsibly. It turns AI buying decisions into evidence-led and organisation-led choices, so leaders can evaluate solutions and suppliers against weighted criteria, surface and price acquisition risks before contract and stand up governance that gives every AI decision a named owner and a clear escalation path.

It reflects the 2026 move from chat assistants to governed enterprise agents, so leaders can buy and govern both. The result is AI use that holds up to board, regulatory and staff scrutiny.

This unit develops the senior leader who can take an AI system from delivery through to sustained, safe operation, so adoption holds and benefits last well beyond go-live. Leaders learn to lead AI-enabled change, manage workforce and ecosystem impact, stand up organisational AI risk management, meet audit and compliance requirements, monitor live systems for bias, drift and security weakness and communicate AI risks and opportunities credibly to the workforce, the board and regulators.

It reflects the current market, where organisations are moving from standalone AI assistants to governed enterprise AI agents and the current assurance landscape of recognised AI management and risk standards. It is a leadership unit, where the instruments are leadership tools such as change and adoption plans, risk registers, governance frameworks and monitoring plans, supported by supervised use of mainstream AI assistants to inform judgement and shape sound decisions.

Digital marketing apprenticeship course card

Skills England launched three new Level 5 apprenticeship units in April 2026, specifically designed for managers and senior leaders who need to lead AI adoption confidently and responsibly. These are not general AI awareness courses. They are structured, nationally recognised programmes built around the knowledge and skills leaders actually need: strategic thinking, sound governance, and the ability to drive real organisational change.

Althaus is an approved delivery partner for all three units. Drawing on our track record in leadership development and digital skills, we deliver these programmes in a way that is practical, people-centred, and directly relevant to the challenges leaders face today.

How it works

Who are they for?

The AI Leadership units are designed for employed managers and senior leaders who are responsible for strategic, governance or operational decisions relating to AI. No technical or coding background is required.

Leaders can take any single unit or work through all three as a structured pathway. Each unit stands alone and targets a distinct set of leadership capabilities.
