This is an exciting opportunity to manage the Accounting & Finance function within a ‘digital first’ and fast-growing organisation, with one of the strongest brands in the IT/digital training sector. Although this is an interim position for a 6-month fixed term, the role may lead to further opportunities as we continue to grow.

The Role…

As the Finance & Payroll Manager, you will have end-to-end responsibility for the monthly accounts and payroll processes, alongside oversight of AR/ AP, management reporting and process improvement, to ensure sound financial management of the business. You will also have joint line management responsibilities of the Finance and Compliance Administrator and report to the Finance Director (FD).

 

Main Responsibilities:

  • Maintain robust financial systems, processes and controls, ensuring their effective operation
  • Drive continuous improvement of policies, procedures and controls to ensure sound financial management
  • End-to-end responsibility for maintaining accurate financial accounts and for month-end processes
  • Review and analyse financial statements and produce monthly management accounts to the FD
  • Asist with preparation of annual statutory accounts
  • Oversee sales ledger/ accounts receivable, including ensuring tight credit control procedures
  • Oversee purchase ledger/ accounts payable, including preparation of weekly payment runs
  • End-to-end responsibility of payroll processes, processing monthly payroll & pension filings
  • Preparation and submission of company VAT returns
  • Proactively support cost control across the business and produce weekly reporting of key budget lines
  • Support creation of budgets and financial forecasting
  • Joint line management of the Finance and Compliance Administrator
  • Advise the Finance Director on any matters relating to financial performance
  • Participate in and support internal and external audits

Your areas of knowledge and expertise that matter most for this role:

We’re seeking a self-motivated, conscientious, and driven individual who would thrive in a specialist role within a dynamic and fast-growing business.

For this role, we’re looking for a part or fully qualified accountant, with excellent technical accounting knowledge and attention to detail. You will be expected to deliver your responsibilities efficiently and with integrity, showing a positive and solution focused attitude. The role involves demonstrating ultimate professionalism and strong communication skills, whilst showing initiative and managing priorities and deadlines effectively.

 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Part to fully qualified accountant, with excellent technical accounting knowledge
  • Experience working with accounting software, such as Xero
  • Experienced and technically proficient with Microsoft Excel
  • Experience of running AP and AR
  • Strong analytical skills and excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to delegate and manage the work of others
  • Strong communication skills and comfortability engaging with internal and external stakeholders
  • Able to demonstrate high standards of integrity and professional conduct, with a comprehensive understanding of confidentiality and GDPR
  • Grade 4/C GCSE or equivalent in both English and Maths

This is a hybrid role and will require travel to Derby (East Midlands) for at least 3 days per week.
